Marcus Rashford hopeful of Man Utd chance in derby after England Under-21 hat-trick

Marcus Rashford is hoping that he has played his way into the Manchester United team ahead of Saturday's Premier League derby with Manchester City after a hat-trick on Tuesday night for the England Under-21s in front of senior manager Sam Allardyce.

Gareth Southgate, the Under-21 manager, suggested after the match that he now also expects Rashford to be promoted to the full England team but was adamant that another breathtaking performance was only a continuation of his training ground form.

Allardyce was in attendance to see Rashford's treble.
Rashford said that he had been inspired by the presence in Colchester last night of Allardyce for England's 6-1 rout of Norway.

"It means a lot (that Allardyce was here)," he said. "It's the England seniors, there is a new manager and they are doing well. Everyone is working hard to get into that side, so it was important that he was here to see our development."
Rashford scored the winner for United against Hull City in their last game and is now pushing for a first start under Mourinho.

"That’s all you want to do as a young player, give your manager a decision about whether to play you - I'm just looking forward to it," said the 18-year-old.

Southgate was asked what he had said to Rashford after substituting him in the 86th minute. "You’ve enjoyed your week - I was tempted to say it was nice working with you," he said.
